The Soft Electric

Spring 2006
This was my graduate thesis at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU. It has been displayed at the Future Fashion Event, hosted by Cute Circuit and Codice-Idee at Viaggio Telecom in Pisa, Italy, the Broadcast event at the Grey Area Foundation for the Arts and at the Open Make event at the Exploratorium.

The capelet was knitted and felted by hand. It is embroidered with conductive thread. The thread carries electric current to LEDs that are beaded into the embroidery, making the electronic current part of the garment's adornment. The LED beads flicker, acting like a sequin in the light.

The Soft Electric is currently on display at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft as part of their Craft Meets Technology exhibit.
